We recorded this one a few days earlier than usual due to me suddenly having a social schedule. So, it’s me, Big V, and the Edgey make 3 this time. Topics on hand? What do you think? It’s Big V being fucking insane and Edgey and I slapping our foreheads in disgust. What, you suddenly thought we went all highbrow? Nope. Vinny’s got sand in his vagina over everything videogames, and Edgey and I try to carry on a civil conversation, and we just happened to be recording it. Oh, and keep an ear out at the end of the show as we briefly run the idea of bringing back a familiar name… we’re just looking for input here. Hit this link to head to the Pink Ninja Forum and vote yay or nay on the idea. We’re a democracy here at Commander Tim.
Not registered? Well what are you waiting for? BAM fucker!
As you’ll hear in the first minute of the show, I am indeed a liar. I didn’t get the show out on Monday as planned, but that’s ok. So, this week it’s the usual gang plus PhantomGuy101 from the Pink Ninja Forums. Couple of things to note:
Big V is a nutty little bastard
When I say Mega Man 8, I mean Mega Man 9
2 hours plus for this one folks. If you make it to the end, give yourself a pat on the back for being so hardcore.
Saw this over on Topless Robot and had to share. It’s the filmstrip version of A New Hope. What’s a filmstrip? Based on this video, you would think it’s a giant sucking sound where the joy of Star Wars used to be. But seriously though, this was the most awesome thing ever way back when… now it’s just another forgotten piece of licensing. And to my younger readers; this is what life was like before 2 disc special edition DVDs that come out 2 months after theatrical. Be thankful.
Pretty good show this time. Edgey and I are joined by Hunterchief, and we get a surprise visit from Big V the Racingfreak. It’s comic book talk a plenty this week… that is, until RF shows up and the whole show becomes about how awesome S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is (wtf does that stand for anyway?).
Mega Man 9 is out on Wii Ware for 1000 points. Playstation 3 owners get theirs on September 25th, and XBox 360 owners have to hold out till October 1st. I’m all over this. Anybody else out there ready for the return of the 8-bit Blue Bomber?
Since piecing together my my new gaming PC, I have spent considerable time catching up with all the fantastic games I’ve missed in the last year. Call of Duty 4 is the latest, and seeing that the original Call of Duty is easily one of my all-time favorite games, I had high hopes for Modern Warfare…
I finally finished the single player campaign today. I must say; this game is amazing. Not to give too much away, but when Captain Pierce slides the pistol over to you to take the shot… wow.
Emotional attachment during game play isn’t something I often have. But once again, Infinity Ward actually makes me give a damn about my squad mates. I WANT to help in the mission. I CARE when one of my men gets injured. When my team had to land and rescue a pilot in a very “Black Hawk Down” situation, I felt a surge of adrenaline as I rushed down the street, fighting our way to the pilot. I felt an even greater sense of relief when we were able to get her back to the dust-off site and in the air. This from a video game. Unbelievable.
I know I’m a year behind on raving about this game, but more than the accolades that have been heaped on it for the graphics, and the sound design, and the game play… I wanted to take a moment to recognize the fact that Infinity Ward still possesses the key to what I feel is the most important part of any war title:
I truly cared about virtual people. I cheered along with scripted events in a video game. I felt the rush of disarming nuclear threats around the globe, and the fear of being in a fierce firefight… all while sitting in a comfortable leather chair holding a mouse. THAT is truly amazing game design. THAT is creative passion.
Hell yeah. What an awesome gaming experience.
And THAT is why Call of Duty 4 is now on the list of my all-time favorite games.
Want to hear a funny story? Sorry, I don’t have one. This episode sucks. My Internet connection was being a flaky pile of shit that day, thanks to a dying cable modem. So basically, there are huge jumps in the show from where we paused, picked it up, one-way conversations because nobody could hear each other… gah. So yeah. Edgey and Big V the Racingfreak are along for the ride this episode, and obviously, it turns into a “let’s pick on Vincent” show, which I still feel bad about. Thankfully though, I’ve got a new cable modem and all is well. So next show should be back to it’s old merry self. The party rolls on. See ya’ in two.
I found a really interesting article today from the (pseudo) legendary Jared Rea. It’s a fascinating look at how Capcom has completely bungled the marketing and availability of what should have been the biggest arcade release of the last 10 years. After such high hopes for the title, the pictures in the story give you a glimpse of the sad reality of the arcade version Street Fighter IV in North America. One player per cabinet? Give me a break…
My head is full of random knowledge. I love video games (particularly the old ones). I podcast. This is my blog where I ramble about all of these things. Contact me.
